Australian Cypress
Color & Grain
With honey-gold to brown shades of heartwood and cream-colored sapwood, this Australian hardwood has a closed grain.
Durability & Stability
6% harder than Northern Red Oak, Australian Cypress has outstanding stability and durability. The stability of Australian Cypress is about 56% more stable than Red Oak, though some movement has been found after installation.
African Padauk
Color & Grain
The color of African Padauk has a shade of heartwood that is reddish orange when freshly cut, and can darken to a range of colors that begins at a red tone and can go as dark as purple-brown or black with age. The sapwood color is very consistent and creamy colored.
Durability & Stability
The durability of African Padauk can range from average up to high, depending on the care and maintenance taken. 34% harder than Red Oak and 51% more stable.
Merbau
Color & Grain
Merbau hardwood flooring can have medium and higher variants in color. It can be quite lustrous and sometimes contains golden streaks in it. When first cut, Merbau heartwood normally ranges from a yellow to an orange-brown. After exposure, the heartwood turns brownish or a dark reddish brown. The sapwood is normally a whitish color. Merbau’s grain is coarse, but can be straight, interlocked, or wavy.

57% more stable than Red Oak, Merbau has excellent stability. Merbau has a lower density, but is about as strong as hickory.
Jarrah
Color & Grain
A dazzling accent to any home or office, there is a variation in the color of Jarrah, based on whether it’s fresh or exposed heartwood. When freshly cut, the color of Jarrah ranges from a consistently pink to dark red tone. Colors can be very rich red mahogany, and often feature black streaks with occasional ingrown grain. The sapwood is a pale color. The grain features an even, consistent texture and is somewhat coarse. It can also be interlocked or wavy.
Durability & Stability
Jarrah is 48% harder than Red Oak but is 7% less stable. Despite being slightly less stable, Jarrah is very wear-resistant, dense, and robust.
Thai / Burmese Teak
Color & Grain
The sapwood of Thai / Burmese Teak is a lighter cream color, but heartwood can range from a yellow-brown to a dark golden brown. Upon exposure to the sun, the heartwood changes to a rich brown color. The grain is straight, coarse and often an inconsistent texture.
Durability & Stability
50% more stable and 22% softer than Northern Red Oak, Thai / Burmese Teak has a similar strength to American oaks.
Purpleheart
Color & Grain
For the heartwood, Purpleheart is brown when freshly cut and can evolve into a purplish brown or rich purple tone with age. Purpleheart’s grain can have a standard to fine texture and is usually straight.
Durability & Stability
44% harder and 43% more stable than Red Oak, Purpleheart is a dense, strong, and stable hardwood.
Brazilian Cherry
Color & Grain
Frequently featuring dark streaks, the heartwood of Brazilian Cherry can be a salmon red or orange-brown color when freshly cut. However, once seasoned, the color changes to a russet or rust. Brazilian Cherry’s grain can be standard or quite coarse and is normally interlocked or interlaced.
Durability & Stability
About 82% harder and 19% more stable than Northern Red Oak, Brazilian Cherry is considered a strong and dense choice for hardwood flooring with average stability.
Santos Mahogany
Color & Grain
The Santos Mahogany is typically a dark reddish brown color for its heartwood and a pale color for its sapwood. The grain has striped figuring when quartersawn, and the texture is consistent and fine.
Durability & Stability
About 71% harder and 36% more stable than Red Oak, Santos Mahogany has outstanding durability.
